Shelter Advocate- All Shifts

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Shelter Advocate is a part-time as needed (PRN) position that will provide supervision of the shelter facility during the afternoon, evening, and overnight.  The Shelter Advocate is the point person and main contact for the shelter during his or her shift. 

SHIFTS AVAILABLE: T/TH Afternoons (4:00 pm-8:30 pm); M-F Overnight (8:15 pm- 8:15 am); Sat/Sun Daytime (8:00 am-8:00 pm); Sat/Sun Overnight (8:00 pm- 8:00 am) 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Be the point person and main contact for the shelter during shift
  • Respond appropriately to family needs as they arise
  • Answer phone for the shelter and direct callers to community resources when appropriate
  • Serve as the main contact for volunteers while on shift including: greet hospitality volunteers who provide dinner; help facilitate dinner prep and clean-up; greet the voluntary trainers/facilitators for classes, ensuring they have what they need for the class
  • Receive and fill family needs and requests for supplies, and update Safe Haven staff when supplies need restocking
  • Crisis management as needed
  • Exceptional customer service when interacting with volunteers, families, staff and general public
  • Accept donations of items as needed
  • Light Housekeeping
  • Adhere to agency policy, procedures and the professional code of ethics.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • High-school degree or equivalent, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • One year social services experience (either professional or volunteer)
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
  • Basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of community resources and services
  • Ability to quickly build rapport with families, staff, and volunteers
  • Willingness to work according to the principals of Trauma Informed Care

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High-school degree or equivalent, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • One year social services experience (either professional or volunteer)
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
  • Basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of community resources and services
  • Ability to quickly build rapport with families, staff, and volunteers
  • Willingness to work according to the principals of Trauma Informed Care

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work Environment:  Office setting. Must be able to sit / stand for 8 hours.
  • Walking, bending, light lifting up to 25 lbs.

COMPENSATION

$17.50 per hour
